Arrangements of Prepositions
सम्बन्ध सूचक-अव्यय की व्यवस्था


Preposition को जिस व्यवस्था में उपयोग किया गया है उसके आधार पर उसे निम्न वर्गों में बाँटा जा सकता है.
Based on the arrangement in which the preposition is used it can be grouped in the following categories.

  • Simple Preposition
  • Compound Preposition
  • Phrase Preposition
  • Participle Preposition

1. Simple Preposition
Simple words like...

at, by, for, for, in, out, through, till, to, up, with etc.

... when used as preposition are called simple preposition.

2. Compound Preposition
Sometimes the prepositions are prefixed with a, be etc. to form compound prepositions.

around, along, before, behind, below, within, without, inside, outside, etc.
3. Phrase Preposition
Phrase preposition is a group of words used together as a single preposition.

according to,
because of,
by way of,
in addition to,
in reference to,
in comparison to,
in favour of,
in lieu of,
on account of,
with an eye to,
with reference to,
with regard to,

etc.
4. Participle Preposition
The present participles of some verbs like...

barring, concerning, during, pending, respecting, touching

... are used by themselves without being attached to any noun or pronoun. When used as a preposition these are refered to as participle prepositions.
